The Plant Passport system is to make sure that plants being moved within Great Britain are healthy and traceable. Operators and suppliers of plants in GB will be familiar with the rules surrounding the movement of plants which includes all plants for planting, some seeds and seed potatoes. The HTA have launched a brand-new learning module, developed and funded by Defra and created by CPL Learning to help operators comply with the plant passport system.

We’ve all had to spend this year looking at new ways to do things. Remote working and online tools have never played such a vital role in our lives. And it’s no different for the personal licence services we have been relied on providing for so long. Back in March, we were able to launch a fully online personal licence e-learning course and remote invigilation service for gaining your APLH and SCPLH. This online course and exam has been allowing learners to successfully complete their personal licence training and exam remotely throughout the pandemic and gain their qualification.
Hospitality businesses have been pushed to their limits this year and with the second national lockdown looming, there is obviously growing concern about what that will mean for the UK’s third-largest employer and the thousands of business owners and team members affected. What we did see during the last lockdown was an amazing sense of resourcefulness, resilience, and support within the sector. After the explosion in gin popularity over the last couple of years, everyone is wondering what the next big thing in drinks is set to be. Recent research from CGA report that prior to lockdown the rum market was in 3% growth, being driven predominantly by growth in the golden and spiced rum categories. There has also been a growth in the number of rum brands entering the market, suggesting that rum could well be the next spirit category to follow gin in growth.
As hospitality businesses across the UK continue in their reopening efforts amidst heightened hygiene and changes to operations to support COVID measures, the problem of no-shows to bookings can cause problems. As many businesses are running their operation at a reduced capacity, every cover counts. Our new free learning activity has been produced in collaboration with sector experts to help hospitality operators implement actions to reduce the number of no-shows.
We have been humbled and proud to be part of the hospitality sector during these challenging few months of lockdown. The road ahead isn’t fully clear, venues are operating at a lower capacity than normal or may not have reopened at all, operations have changed, the public may be feeling nervous about returning to normal.
